San Isidro Recovers River Access with New Provincial Agreement

The Buenos Aires locality of San Isidro has recovered public space along the river thanks to efforts by Mayor Ramón Lanús. This was made possible by a new agreement with the province, which transfers the municipality's administration of 15 coastal parcels totaling approximately 500,000 square meters. The agreement, signed by the mayor and Governor Axel Kicillof, is historic and aims to implement the "Coastal Plan." According to it, funds collected as an "occupation fee" will be fully reinvested in the development of this area. The municipality will receive the exclusive right to collect the fee, which must be used to create public spaces accessible to everyone. The new agreement strengthens the legal framework for restoring the coastal strip, which was previously occupied or had restricted access. The municipality is already working in this direction, turning over 5,000 square meters into a public recreational area. Previously, two buildings that had been operating illegally since 1996 were demolished, and parks were created in their place. The renovation of a neighboring football field and a municipal sports complex is also planned.
